First-Time Setup
Up and running in under 10 minutes
Follow the steps below in order. Most setup issues come from skipping the firmware update or missing the packing foam under the tray, both are covered below.
-
1Remove all packing materials. Check under and above the plastic tray and under the legs for packing foam, and all of them must be removed before first use. Watch the unpacking video →
-
2Stainless steel inserts (optional). If using stainless steel inserts, place them in the tray slots now. If your order includes silicone storage lids, watch this short video for helpful hints →
-
3Plug in and power on. Use only the included adapter. The LED indicator will light up. Ensure the power cable is out of foot traffic.
-
4Download the SmartLife app. Available on the App Store and Google Play. Create an account and log in. For detailed setup instructions, see the SmartLife guide.
-
5Pair SoCool. Put SoCool into pairing mode by holding the reset button (under the front of the device) for 5 seconds — you'll hear a long chime and see a pulsing white LED. In the app, tap +, select HAPPYLLAMATECH, enter your Wi-Fi password, and follow prompts.
-
6Update firmware immediately. After pairing, go to Settings in the app and install any available firmware update. We regularly release improvements based on customer feedback, keeping firmware current is the single best thing you can do for reliability.

If "Stop Delivery After 5th Rotation" is disabled, SoCool does not track meal count, you will only see steady blue.
Using SoCool
Setting Up Feeding Schedules
In the SmartLife app, tap Meal Plan → Add, select the days and times, then tap Save in the upper right. You can create up to 10 schedules. Enable or disable the audible alert per meal, handy for quiet overnight feedings.
Auto Stop
Auto Stop ("Stop Delivery After 5th Rotation" setting) is off by default. When enabled, SoCool stops rotating after the 5th meal to prevent older food from being served. A red light appears after the final rotation ... this is a reminder, not an error.
To resume: press the reset button on the device, or tap "Reset Counter" in the app. Best for anyone loading 5 meals at once who wants automatic protection against stale food.
App Settings at a Glance
Toggle the meal-delivery chime on or off per schedule, perfect if your pet doesn't need the reminder.
Adjust the indicator light brightness under Settings, good for light-sensitive spaces.
View the last 7 days of feeding records directly in the app to verify meals were delivered.
Rename SoCool in the app (e.g., "Mia's Feeder"), especially useful with multiple devices.
Maintenance
Condensation & the Cooling Plate
SoCool reaches true refrigeration temperatures. The cooling plate often operates near freezing. Condensation that accumulates inside the chamber can freeze to the bottom of the tray, preventing it from rotating and causing missed feedings or flashing indicator lights.
A 30-second weekly wipe prevents this entirely. The easiest time to do it is when you're already refilling the tray.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Tray not rotating | Packing foam still in place, or frozen condensation on cooling plate | Remove all packing material including foam between tray and cooling plate. If foam is gone, unplug for a few minutes, wipe the cooling plate dry, and restart. |
| Steady red light on, no rotation | Auto Stop triggered after 5th meal (this is normal, not an error) | Press the reset button under the front of the device, or tap "Reset Counter" in the SmartLife app. |
| Skipped feeding | Ice buildup on cooling plate, or schedule set under 6 minutes ahead | Wipe the cooling plate. Check that your next scheduled meal is at least 6 minutes in the future. |
| Strobing yellow LED | Tray rotation blocked by ice or debris | Tap "Maintenance" on the home page of the app, let thaw for 5 minutes, wipe accumulated condensation from cooling plate. |
| Device not cooling well | Fur filters clogged | Remove and clean both fur filters under the device. Ensure at least 1" of clearance underneath. If using stainless steel inserts, ensure the toggle in Settings is enabled. |
| App won't connect | Phone on 5 GHz Wi-Fi | Ensure phone is connected to 2.4 GHz WiFi. SoCool supports 2.4GHz only. |
| Device not powering on | Loose connection or outlet issue | Check both ends of the power cable, try a different outlet. Only use the included adapter. |
